Personalized advertising, virtual reality, augmented reality, 3-D videos, future cars, and screens controlled by hand movements… futuristic technology rivals Tom Cruise as the real star of Minority Report.

Spielberg decided to add the jetpacks worn by the policemen as a tribute to old science-fiction serials such as Commando Cody.

Jetpacks have their real-world origins in sci-fi. Several inventors were inspired by the 1920s comic hero Buck Rogers, but it took until the 50s before a workable model – the Bell rocket belt – was dreamed up by Wendell Moore, an engineer with Bell Aircraft.

Perhaps their most famous flights occurred in the pregame ceremonies before Super Bowl I in 1967 and in Los Angeles in the 1984 Summer Olympics during that event’s ceremonies.

We like:

  • It is one of Spielberg's best with very thought provoking scenes, thrilling sequences and having sci-fi elements ahead of its time.
