One of Ralph’s earliest paintings completed in February of 1975, was of the Imperial City of Alderaan, where the rescue of the princess would take place. Although, this design was ultimately unused in the finished film.

Ralph Angus McQuarrie (June 13, 1929 – March 3, 2012) career included work on the original Star Wars trilogy, the original Battlestar Galactica television series, the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and the film Cocoon, for which he won an Academy Award.
