Freelance concept artist and matte painter Gus Mendonca was kind enough to share some of the phenomenal art he has created over the years.
Gus grew up in Brazil and has also lived in Portugal, Canada, Japan, and the U.S. He is now based in Seattle, Washington where he works as a Senior Freelance Concept Artist for the entertainment industry helping studios design their projects to appeal to audiences around the world.
Gus has designed for acclaimed franchises such as Star Wars, The Avengers, Halo, Gears of War, Dead Rising, Call of Duty and Need for Speed to mention a few.
Gus has contributed to the world of Star Wars for nearly a decade working on a wide variety of projects.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Gus was responsible for designing the SDF Mars Space Station for Call of Duty Infinity Warfare.
Gus helped with well-considered character, environment, key moment and vehicle designs that helped shape the look of Poet’s fantasy world.
Halo 5: Guardians
Gus collaborated with concept art and matte paintings to Microsoft’s Halo 5 Guardians. These environments were developed from ideation to in-game engine integration, including modeling, texturing, lighting and optimization.
Gus was involved with the inception of the VR game Adr1ft by crafting the very first set of visual designs for the project.
A very unique character design opportunity where the goal was to design a clean looking and friendly robot heavily influenced by contemporary product designs.
Metal is the codename for a new intellectual property currently being developed by Gus Mendonca.
A homage to Katsuhiro Otomo and his seminal work, AKIRA.
